V = pi x r^2 x h. A cylinder with radius 5 and height 10 has volume = pi x 25 x 10 = 785.4 cubic units. The base area is pi x r^2 (a circle), and you multiply by height.

V = (4/3) x pi x r^3. A sphere with radius 3: V = (4/3) x pi x 27 = 113.1 cubic units. Surface area = 4 x pi x r^2.

A cone has exactly 1/3 the volume of a cylinder with the same base and height. V_cone = (1/3) x pi x r^2 x h. This is a useful fact: it takes 3 cone-fulls to fill a cylinder.

1 cubic foot = 1,728 cubic inches. 1 cubic yard = 27 cubic feet. 1 cubic meter = 1,000 liters. 1 gallon = 231 cubic inches = 3.785 liters. 1 liter = 1,000 milliliters = 1,000 cubic centimeters.

V = length x width x height. A box 10 x 5 x 3 = 150 cubic units. Surface area = 2(lw + lh + wh). A cube is a special box where all sides are equal: V = s^3.
